UK delegation to business summit to enhance ties with China
The delegation's aim was to establish connections with Chinese business partners and to deepen commercial ties between the UK and China.
British Ambassador, Sebastian Wood, together with Catherine Raines, Director General of UK Trade & Investment (China) and Sir David Brewer CMG, Chairman of China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), led a large UK delegation to attend the China Entrepreneur Club (CEC)’s 6th Annual Summit of Green Companies in Kunming from 20 to 21 April. The aim of the delegation was to establish connections with Chinese business partners and to further deepen commercial ties between the UK and China.
Under the theme of “Rethinking Business and Sustained Growth”, the three-day Annual Summit provided an essential platform for businesses to share their views on macro-economic trends and management approaches, in the pursuit of finding a shared path towards sustainable economic development.
Senior leaders from UK companies, including BT China, Manchester United, the Maybourne Hotel Group, and other well-known financial services companies attended the summit. They had a thorough discussion with more than 700 business people, academics and political leaders from across China on topics such as benefits and opportunities for entrepreneurs during China’s reform. They also discussed future business opportunities for Chinese enterprises’ and entrepreneurs to expand into foreign markets. In addition, the UK delegation also held a private breakfast on the morning of Monday of 22 April to establish friendship and explore business opportunities with influential Chinese entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the session of Reform Dividend Calls for Champions of the New Economy, Sebastian Wood said:
I believe the UK is China’s natural Partner for Growth for future business collaboration, to move up the value chain, becoming an increasingly knowledge-driven economy grounded in creativity. The UK’s strengths complement China’s needs perfectly and I look forward to working with the entrepreneurs leading China in its next stage of economic evolution.
