The UK-ASEAN Skills Mission delegation, which features 13 selected UK Skills Providers and Professional Chartered Bodies, is bullish about the growth potential and opportunities in the development of TVET and skills in Malaysia.

Up to 60% of all new jobs that will be created are expected to require TVET-related skills. According to the visiting delegation, TVET is therefore going to be a game changer in how Malaysia produces skilled talent. This is further supported by the Malaysian government’s vision and commitment in developing TVET in pursuit of its economic ambitions, as highlighted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The UK is eager to provide significant support and actively contribute towards the Malaysian government’s efforts in achieving its TVET objectives.

British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Her Excellency Ailsa Terry CMG said:

The UK and Malaysia share a strong education partnership which was reinforced with the signing of the UK-Malaysia Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2023.

This UK-ASEAN Skills Mission is a follow-up to a series of bilateral engagement in the education and TVET sector, including a successful conclusion of the UK’s five-year Skills for Prosperity Programme promoting TVET, social inclusivity and gender equality in the Malaysian workforce. I want to create more opportunities for the sharing of expertise and keen to see our education partnerships flourish.

The delegation is in Malaysia to showcase how the UK can support the transformation of vocational skills sector in Malaysia through sharing of expertise, business matching, and high-level engagements with government and industry stakeholders over a two-day event on 15 and 16 January 2024. They are joined by key speakers from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MoHE), the National TVET Council members such as The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) leadership.
