The UK’s recently appointed Defence Attaché to Vietnam, resident in Hanoi, Group Captain Tim Below, made an exploratory visit to the British Embassy Vientiane this week to scope the possibility of building some defence links with Laos.

During the visit, the Defence Attaché met with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defence. Group Captain Tim Below also met with representatives from British non-governmental organisation Mines Advisory Group (MAG), who undertake the clearance of unexploded ordnance across Laos with British funding.

The United Kingdom has a network of Defence Attachés deployed within ASEAN countries working to strengthen defence and security co-operation in a range of areas.
