Over five million items of personal protective equipment are being delivered by the UK Government to Northern Ireland this week so that front line workers can safely care for patients and the public in hospitals and communities. After announcing the provision of five million items on Friday, the Government has moved quickly to fulfil the request from the NI Executive and provide the PPE they need for the next few weeks. It is the UK Government’s priority to give all health service workers the protection they need to treat coronavirus patients.

The Rt Hon Brandon Lewis MP, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, said:

“The outbreak of coronavirus is the biggest challenge we have faced in a generation which is why the UK Government has put in place an unprecedented package of measures to support the whole of the UK through this challenging time.

“I am pleased we have been able to move quickly to provide five million additional items of PPE to the Northern Ireland Executive, and we stand ready to provide more in the weeks ahead. We will continue to work closely with the NI Executive to do everything it takes to get through this together.”
