UK Government offers support to narrow down the search for MH370
The UK has offered expertise from Government hydrographers and oceanographers.
Following the suspected discovery of debris from the missing Malaysian airliner MH370 on the island of Reunion, the UK has offered expertise from Government hydrographers and oceanographers to help in the investigation’s analysis.
In 2014, HMS Echo, HMS Tireless and numerous RAF personnel helped in the initial search for MH370. Now, as new evidence emerges our analysts at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) working closely with their colleagues in the Met Office can run a modelling process known as ‘hind casting’ to use historical data on ocean currents and survey data of the sea floor to try and establish where debris might have come from.
The team at the UKHO are highly skilled and it is hoped that their technical and analytical experience will narrow the search area for MH370.
Secretary of State Michael Fallon said:
Britain stands ready to aid Malaysia in their efforts to find this plane. We have offered our best analysts and scientists to help narrow down the search.
