UK Minister for Europe the RT Hon David Lidington visits Latvia
The Rt Hon David Lidington MP visited Latvia this week to discuss current issues relevant to Latvia and the United Kingdom
UK Minister of State for Europe the Rt Hon David Lidington MP visited Latvia on 24 and 25 March. The main objective was to discuss current developments in Ukraine, relations with Russia and the EU. Minister Lidington also touched upon the upcoming Presidency of the EU hosted by Latvia and the issues of creating jobs, delivering growth and completing the single digital market.
Minister Lidington met Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma, Minister of Defence Raimonds Vejonis and Minister of Economy Vjaceslavs Dombrovskis.
Minister Lidington participated in a joint press conference with the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Rinkevics, during which Minister Lidington reaffirmed UK’s commitment to NATO Article 5 and collective security principles.
This was the Minister’s second visit to Latvia. Mr Lidington first visited Latvia on 7 and 8 March 2012.
