UK Minister for Europe visits Iceland following recent elections
UK Minister for Europe, David Lidington, visited Iceland from 19 to 20 June and met with members of the newly elected government and business representatives.
The minister also addressed a symposium at the University of Iceland discussing the UK and Iceland’s relationship with Europe and visited Landsvirkjun, Iceland’s national electricity generation company to learn more about a proposed electricity interconnector project linking the two countries.
Commenting on his visit the minister said:
This has been a highly productive visit and it’s clear to me that our two countries have much in common and that many of our interests overlap. I’ve had the opportunity to hear first hand of important UK Icelandic business links and to get a clearer understanding of Iceland’s approach to Europe.
As I said at the symposium earlier today, whichever road Iceland chooses with regards to Europe, it can count on Britain as an ally and friend.
