The UK Minister of State for Europe Leo Docherty successfully concluded a two-day visit to Luxembourg, aimed at reinforcing the longstanding friendship and collaboration between the United Kingdom and Luxembourg.
Minister Docherty met with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Asselborn, engaged with a large cross section of community and business leaders at the Kings Birthday Party, and hosted a roundtable discussion with business leaders.
Minister Docherty held a constructive meeting with Minister Asselborn, during which both parties discussed details on elements within the recently signed UK-Luxembourg Joint Statement on Bilateral Cooperation. Particular focus was given to the ongoing support to Ukraine during Putin’s war-of-choice, which has devastated the lives of thousands of civilians. The discussion also covered topics including promoting equality and human rights, upholding Euro-Atlantic security as NATO allies, looking at ways to increase youth mobility, and preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference scheduled to take place in the UK next week.
The King’s Birthday Party, held at the British Ambassador’s Residence, was an important occasion to mark his Majesty The King’s first official birthday. The Minister was able to engage with a wide range of guests from the British and Luxembourgish communities, and to thank community leaders for their support to the embassy, particularly during the recent Coronation event in Luxembourg.
Minister Docherty hosted a working breakfast with CEOs from a number of the British financial services institutions based in Luxembourg. The meeting provided an opportunity to have a wide-ranging discussion on doing business in Luxembourg. Minister Docherty emphasised the importance of the robust business links between the UK and Luxembourg, underscoring the UK’s position as an open and global financial centre.
