Diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Mongolia were established on 23 January 1963.

On 18 January, a reception was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ulaanbaatar to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that occasion.

During his opening remarks, His Excellency Mr Bold, Minister for Foreign Affairs, noted that:

The United Kingdom was the first western nation to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia, thus strengthening Mongolia’s reputation on the international stage.

During his speech, His Excellency Mr Christopher Stuart, British Ambassador to Mongolia, added that:

The United Kingdom is very proud of this fact and of the foundation it laid for the growing and enduring relationship that has characterised the succeeding years.

Events to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Mongolia will be held throughout 2013.
