UK support for the Kigali Principles on the Protection of Civilians

Baroness Anelay highlights UK commitment to protection of civilians.

On 7 to 8 September the UK will host the UN Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial in London. Ahead of the Ministerial, the Rt Hon Baroness Anelay of St Johns DBE announced UK support for the Kigali Principles. The 18 Principles are intended as guidelines to improve the protection of civilians on peacekeeping missions.

Speaking ahead of the London Ministerial, Baroness Anelay said:

This week’s conference is all about better peacekeeping. Improving peacekeepers’ ability to protect civilians is a vital part of that and the Kigali Principles are designed to help them with this. I am pleased to announce UK support for the Principles as a further demonstration of UK wider commitment to the protection of civilians.
