UK supports training for senior African army officers in Uganda

The course was aimed at helping prepare the officers for command and staff appointments in peace support, security and stability operations.

On 21 June 2018, the Deputy High Commissioner Sarah Mann participated in the closing ceremony of the General and Senior Officer Study period for 2018 officiated by Uganda’s Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Wilson Mbadi.

The course, which lasted just over 4 days, was officially opened on Monday 18 June 2018 by the Deputy Commander of Land Forces Maj Gen Sam Kavuma in the presence of the British High Commissioner HE Peter West.

Senior army officers and officials working with the military from 9 countries across East and West Africa and personnel from the East Africa Stand-by Force attended the course. This is the third Generals and Senior Officer Study period hosted by Uganda. The course was aimed at helping prepare the officers for command and staff appointments in peace support, security and stability operations.

The course was delivered by staff of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom facilitated by the British Peace Support Team - East Africa.
