- a ‘living lab’ area, which will show visitors new methods and techniques in horticulture and food production
UK Ambassador to China, Dame Barbara Woodward said:
The UK is honoured to be part of the Beijing Expo which will further strengthen our green partnership with China.
UK and China collaboration is already helping to tackle sustainability challenges including climate change and carbon emission.
Our participation will create more opportunities for our governments, our scientists and our businesses to work together to create a greener world.
Strengthening UK-China green partnership
The UK Department for International Trade and the British Embassy in Beijing are leading the UK’s participation at the Expo.
From 29 April to 7 October, the UK will deliver a programme of events on agri-tech, clean energy, green finance and future cities to showcase the UK’s strengths in technological innovation to improve sustainability and is therefore an ideal partner for China in its quest for a greener future.
The importance of protecting the natural environment has been a recurring theme for the UK’s award-winning pavilions at World Expos, including Thomas Heatherwick’s ‘Seed Cathedral’ at the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
The UK has a world-renowned reputation in garden design and botany, with internationally recognised attractions such as the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and Royal Horticultural Society Gardens and shows.
