UK Trade and Defence envoys in Cairo for EDEX conference

The UK Trade Envoy Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and Defence Senior Advisor for Middle East (DSAME) Lt Gen Sir John Lorimer have arrived in Egypt.

2 December – The UK Trade Envoy Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and Defence Senior Advisor for Middle East (DSAME) Lt Gen Sir John Lorimer have arrived in Egypt along with a trade delegation to discuss further growth in economic and security cooperation.

The high-level visitors will attend the EDEX conference, organised by leader UK events organiser Clarion events, which will include over 20 British companies from fields of security and defence.

The UK Trade Envoy will sit down with His Excellency Egyptian Minister of Trade to discuss the future of UK investment in Egypt and deepening future trade ties. Sir Jeffrey Donaldson will also meet with representatives from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education.

UK Trade Envoy Sir Jeffrey Donaldson said:

Egypt is a country of vital strategic importance in the region and Egypt’s future is extremely important to the UK. I am delighted to be back to Egypt with a delegation of leading British companies focusing on education, as well as over twenty British companies participating in Egypt’s first defence expo to support this country as it works to realize its development goals.

British Ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams said:

Britain and Egypt have a shared will to grow their partnership. The past two weeks have seen a series of high-level visits in both countries that set a joint path of economic prosperity.

This Sir Jeffrey Donaldson’s ninth visit to Egypt in two years in his role as Trade Envoy. Earlier this year, he brought the largest British trade delegation in 20 years to Egypt. Last week, over 40 companies joined the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) delegation to explore bilateral investment opportunities and potential partnerships in sectors including healthcare, education, oil and gas, and finance.
