Universal Periodic Review 45: UK Statement on Germany
The UK delivered a statement on 25 March 2024 during Germany’s Universal Periodic Review at the Human Rights Council.
Thank you, Mr President,
The UK welcomes Germany’s engagement during its Universal Periodic Review. Particularly, in examining all 346 recommendations with relevant government officials, the German Länder and civil society representatives to ensure they delivered a representative response across German society.
We welcome Germany’s affirmation of the principle of ensuring equality amongst its workers.
We also welcome their explanation of the implementation of the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act and its goal of eliminating human rights abuses across their supply chains.
We appreciate the setting out of the measures Germany took following the ratification of the ILO Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190) and we look forward to hearing its continued progression.
We would like to know more on how the German government sees its commitment to a Feminist Foreign Policy influencing its implementation of human rights principles in its foreign policy objectives.
The UK welcomes the German government’s continued commitment to promoting democracy and human rights. We very much value them as a likeminded partner and welcome their continued cooperation on these issues.
Thank you.
