Universal Periodic Review 47: UK Statement on Norway

Statement by the UK at Norway's Universal Periodic Review at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Thank you, Mr President,

The UK appreciates Norway’s long-standing commitment to protecting and promoting human rights.

We welcome the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report, and further welcome the review of legal security for children and parents in child welfare services.

We encourage Norway to strengthen the rights framework for disabled people and measures to combat gender-based violence.

We recommend Norway:

  1. Incorporate the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities into the Human Rights Act to strengthen the rights and protection of people with disabilities.

  2. Strengthen investigative capacity and training within law enforcement on gender-based violence, domestic and sexual violence, and increase support for, and protection of, survivors.

  3. Ensure safe and accessible abortion in the ongoing abortion reform, and in particular ensure services are available at primary health care level across the country.

Thank you.
