Villiers: Women can drive Northern Ireland economic recovery

Following the announcement by the Prime Minister today to end the gender pay gap, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Rt Hon Theresa Villiers said women in NI can help drive an economic recovery

Ms Villiers commented:

Encouraging female business talent has the potential to deliver an effective driver for Northern Ireland’s economic recovery. The government is determined to dismantle the barriers that hold women back from succeeding in the world of work, building on policies such as the National Living Wage, and extending flexible working.

There are positive signs of improvement, such as the narrowing of the gender pay gap in Northern Ireland in recent years, but our goal must be genuine gender equality to deliver a stronger economy and to create more opportunities for women in Northern Ireland and the whole country
