Violence in Anbar province
British Chargé D’Affaires expresses concern about violence in Anbar province and calls on Government of Iraq to ensure protection of civilians.
The British Chargé D’Affaires, Mark Bryson-Richardson said:
I continue to be extremely concerned about the violence in Anbar province, Western Iraq. I condemn the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s targeting of water supplies, which are vital to the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
The United Kingdom supports the Government of Iraq and the Iraqi people in combating terrorism which requires the support of the local population and an inclusive political process. In its actions in Anbar, I call on the Government of Iraq to do all it can to ensure the protection of civilians, the delivery of humanitarian aid and that any military action is targeted and proportionate.
