VMD Collaboration: MSc in Veterinary Medicine Regulatory Affairs
The VMD and the University of Pretoria, South Africa, collaborate to develop MSc in Veterinary Medicine Regulatory Affairs.
In January, Dr Alison Pyatt, our VMD Training Centre Lead, visited the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria to set up a postgraduate and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme in veterinary medicine regulatory affairs (VRA).
During the visit we led collaborative workshops and drafted a curriculum structure with colleagues at the university, working particularly closely with Prof. Nenene Qekwana, Head of the Department of Paraclinical Sciences.
With the help of industry leads, regulators, academia, and the VMD, this ambitious venture aims to create an innovative and professional educational programme that will help drive VRA training standards locally and globally.
Acknowledgements
We would like to extend a particular thanks to Professor Marinda Oosthuizen, Deputy Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies, and Professor Vinny Naidoo, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, for their warm welcome to the University of Pretoria.
This initiative marks a notable step in improving access to tailored learning aimed at addressing a key skillset gap. We look forward to working with industry bodies and regulators to continue progressing in this field.
