Wallace - Appointment extension of Chief Electoral Officer for NI

Ben Wallace MP has today extended the appointment of Graham Shields, Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ben Wallace MP, today announced the extension of the appointment of Graham Shields as Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland. Graham Shields’ appointment has been extended until 31 October 2016.

Announcing the extension, Mr Wallace said:

The role of Chief Electoral Officer plays a vital role in ensuring public participation and confidence in the electoral process in Northern Ireland. I am delighted that Graham Shields has agreed to stay in office until next year.

Mr Shields was appointed to the position of Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland for a period of five years in October 2010. His appointment has been extended until 31 October 2016.

An open competition to recruit a new Chief Electoral Officer will be launched next year.
