The Secretary of State for Wales David Jones has today responded to the announcement from the Department of Transport confirming that First Great Western Ltd will continue to operate the franchise for the Great Western mainline until September 2015.

David Jones said:

“Today’s announcement will ensure continuity for the passengers who, like me, regularly use this important railway line connecting London to South Wales. The assurance of improved services, such as the roll out of WiFi, will also be warmly welcomed.

“Our programme, which we announced last year, of electrification if the main line from London to Swansea, and the Cardiff Valley lines, will remain on target.”
