Wild bird populations in England and the UK, 1970 to 2010

Defra has published latest statistics on bird populations.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Population indices for farmland birds, woodland birds, water and wetland birds, seabirds and wintering wetland birds show how some bird populations have fared well over the past 40 years, whilst some bird species have experienced severe declines in their numbers.  Drawing on data from a range of national surveys and monitoring schemes coordinated by expert organizations, these statistics highlight the key trends.

There are two Defra National Statistics Releases:

  • Wild bird populations in England, 1970 to 2010; and
  • Wild bird populations in the UK, 1970 to 2010.
