The British High Commission in Accra is delighted to announce that Wiyaala will perform at our annual Queen’s Birthday Party (QBP) on Thursday 23 April 2015. Celebrations will take place at the High Commissioner’s Residence. Her Majesty The Queen celebrates two birthdays each year: her actual birthday on 21 April and her official birthday on a Saturday in June. The Queen’s Birthday is celebrated by British High Commissions and embassies across the world, on or around either of these dates. Historically, official celebrations to mark the British monarch’s birthday have often taken place on a day other than their actual birthday, particularly when the actual birthday has not been in the warmer months of summer. In the United Kingdom, The Queen’s official birthday is famously marked by the Trooping of the Colour: a ceremony performed by regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies. Ghanaian Singer/songwriter Wiyaala has been praised for her creativity and vibrant music. In 2014 she won two All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) for ‘The Most Promising Artiste in Africa’ and ‘The Revelation of the African Continent’. Stuart Taylor of the British High Commission Accra said: “we look forward to welcoming Wiyaala to the High Commissioner’s Residence next month. The QBP is a fun and joyous occasion and we can think of no one better than Wiyaala to get everyone dancing.” Follow us on Twitter: @UkinGhana #QBP2015 to find out more about the preparations for this year’s QBP.
