Falkland Islands students have marked the end of their secondary education with a reception at Government House.

Governor Nigel Haywood hosted the students who are in the final days of their GSCE examinations and wished them luck not only with their results but in the next stage of their lives, whether they were planning to enter the workforce or heading to the UK to attend college. Those students who achieve the appropriate grades will be funded by the Falkland Islands Government for A level courses at Peter Symonds Sixth Form College in Winchester or to acquire National Diplomas or NVQs at Chichester College .

It was the first reception of its kind but Governor Haywood hoped it would become a regular fixture in the Government House calendar as it reflected the value placed by the Falklands government and the wider community on the islands’ youth. He said there was a growing focus on the importance of young islanders and the role they will play in the future of the Falklands.
