Equality and diversity
Dstl is a place where everyone can thrive, succeed and achieve their ambitions, regardless of background, different circumstances, experiences or characteristics.
At Dstl we achieve amazing things when we work together, so we work hard to make sure everyone can be themselves, have their voice heard, and can reach their full potential. We do this by both proactively attracting and retaining a diverse workforce and being an inclusive employer where everyone feels they belong and comfortable to bring their whole self to work.
Diversity and inclusion starts at the top of an organisation. Our leaders:
- listen to equality, diversity and inclusion issues
- act to change things for the better
- share stories of lived experiences to celebrate success
One of the ways our leaders listen is through our many active Employee Support Networks, which are run by our people and supported by our senior management teams and executive champions. These groups help us get honest feedback from our colleagues, influence and facilitate change, help us develop of our policies and culture, and provide support for individuals who may need it. Our networks cover different protected characteristics and interests, including:
- sexual orientation and gender identity
- faith and culture
- parents and carers
- alternative working
- gender equality
- new starters
- people with visible and non-visible disabilities
Dstl has also signed up to the Race at Work Charter, the Armed Forces Covenant and the Derby House Principles, showing our commitment to embedding diversity and inclusion within our organisation.
We have achieved Level 3 status in the Disability Confident Scheme and are recognised as a Disability Confident Leader.
