Priorities
The Office for Equality and Opportunity is central to the government’s commitment to ensuring that every person, no matter their background, has access to the opportunities that allow them to thrive and be treated with respect and dignity.
Our top priorities include:
- delivering the equalities legislation set out in the King’s Speech – the draft Equality (Race and Disability) Bill, equality measures in the Employment Rights Bill, and the draft Conversion Practices Bill
- ensuring equality and opportunity are embedded throughout the government’s missions and work, including a new focus on socio-economic background
- improving the quality of evidence and data about inequality and the types of barriers different people face – this includes protected characteristics but also other aspects of inequality such as socio-economic and geographic inequality
