About us
The Office for Investment (OfI) is a joint unit of HM Treasury, the Department for Business and Trade, and the Prime Minister's Office, 10 Downing Street. We source and secure transformational investment to drive growth, job creation, and increased productivity across the UK.

Strategic investors can expect personalised support to help land UK investment, and continued support to grow that investment. We offer:
- investor problem solving including planning, grids, skills, and visas
- relationships spanning local, regional, and central government
- expertise across sectors, asset classes, and geographic marketplaces
- access to regulators and professional service partners
Why choose the UK?
-
Strategic framework for investors. The UK’s Industrial Strategy, backed by government and industry, identifies 8 high-potential sectors where the UK has international advantage: advanced manufacturing, clean energy, creative, defence, digital and technology, financial services, life sciences, and professional services.
-
Active government support to remove barriers. This includes accelerated planning and grid connections, fast tracking of critical infrastructure, and targeted regulatory reform measures. In terms of talent, the UK encourages the best and brightest while collaborating with industry to meet long-term skills requirements.
-
Stability in an uncertain world. The UK has strong institutional stability, rule of law, industrial depth, and a vision for long-term success.
-
An open, trading economy. The UK is a strategic gateway between Europe and the USA, supported by preferential access. Beneficial trade agreements also enable market diversification, scale, and future growth including: EU, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia/New Zealand, and India.
-
Access to finance. Supported by highly liquid markets, the UK is Europe’s leading venture capital market and startup ecosystem, with the highest number of unicorns. The London Stock Exchange adds further depth and exit options.
OfI is part of Department for Business and Trade and combines expertise from the Department for Business and Trade, His Majesty’s Treasury, and the Prime Minister’s Office, 10 Downing Street to deliver strategic investment projects.
