About us
The Office for Place was an arms-length body based in Stoke-on-Trent set up to address the challenges of improving design quality in new developments, following concerns over poorly designed and unattractive housing. Its work on design and placemaking continues within the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The Office for Place’s purpose was to make it easier for all neighbourhood communities, wherever they might be, to require what they find beautiful and refuse what they find ugly.
The Office for Place was part of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. Its work on design and placemaking continues within the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
