The Royal Marines Museum (RMM) explores the history of the Royal Marines from their origins in 1664 as Sea Soldiers through to current day operations around the world. It tells stories of past and present marines with a vast collection of objects, paintings and archive documents, containing over 1 million photographs and documents, and 30,000 objects.


The Royal Marines Museum is at the heart of Royal Marine history. Located in the Officers’ Mess of the former Royal Marines Barracks in Southsea, Portsmouth, the Museum explores the fascinating history of the Royal Marines from their start in 1664 as Sea Soldiers through to current day operations around the world.
