Professor Andrew Curran took up his post as Chief Scientific Adviser and Director of Research at the Health and Safety Executive in March 2015.
His career highlights include:
- Deputy Chief Executive at the Health and Safety Laboratory
- Scientific Chairman of PEROSH (Partnership for European Research in Occupational Safety and Health)

The operational chief scientist is responsible for:
- ensuring the quality of HSE’s science and that there is an evidence based challenge of HSE’s policies and procedures
- acting as head of profession for scientists and engineers within HSE and the Health and Safety Laboratory
