Andrew Jackson

Biography

Andrew Jackson was appointed Ambassador to the UN Economic Agencies and Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation (Geneva) in September 2024.

Andrew joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1990. He has held a range of positions in the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and across government.

He was Consul General in Dubai, Counsellor for the Knowledge Economy in India, Deputy Ambassador in Argentina, and held roles in Algeria, Italy, and Norway.

His recent positions in the FCDO include Head of Economic Growth, Trade Diplomacy, India, Science and Innovation and Climate Departments, and Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser.

Outside the FCDO, Andrew was Deputy Director, Joint Anti-Corruption Unit at Cabinet Office, and Deputy Director (Gulf Projects) at Department for International Trade.

Andrew was Head of Culture, later Deputy Head, Commission for Africa Secretariat. He was twice seconded to the Division for Oceans and Law of the Sea, United Nations Legal Office and twice independent chair of global and regional multilateral fisheries negotiations. 

Andrew has a master’s degree in development and international law from the London School of Economics.
