Barbara Bennett was appointed Director General, Operations in November 2024. Prior to that she was Director General, Work and Health Services.
Her previous roles include:
- Partner, Public Services, PA Consulting
- Head of Operations for Genomics COVID-19 response at the Department of Health and Social Care
- various positions including Managing Director, Citizen Services and Government Services Director, Central Government Division, Serco Group plc
- Transformation Leader, Home Office
- Global Account Director, IBM UK plc
Director General, Operations
The Director General, Operations is responsible for:
- the day to day to running of Universal Credit and working age operations across Great Britain via jobcentres and service centres
- the provision of all working age face-to-face services through jobcentres, including the relationship with employers and other external partners
- the delivery of services across the lifecycle of UK households, including child maintenance and pensioners
