Dr Carol van der Walt
Biography
Carol joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1998. Her previous roles have included areas as disparate as International Fisheries, IT training policy, and Overseas Security Information for Business (OSIB). Carol has also undertaken a number of roles focussing on the European Union, including time in the UK Permanent Representation in Brussels dealing firstly with the European Parliament and inter-institutional relations, and then latterly with relations with Latin America and Human Rights. Before moving to Oslo, Carol was heading up the Future of Europe team in the FCO in London.
Carol has a first class joint honours degree in Spanish and Latin from Birmingham University, and a PhD in Medieval Spanish. She is married, with a son and a daughter. Carol likes to relax by playing the piano, and co-leads the music at the International Baptist Church of Oslo.
British Ambassador to the Dominican Republic
The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
