The Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan

Biography

Cheryl Gillan served as Secretary of State for Wales from May 2010 to September 2012. She was elected Conservative MP for Chesham and Amersham on 9 April 1992.

Education

Cheryl was educated at Cheltenham Ladies College and the College of Law.

Political career

Cheryl was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department for Education and Employment in the last Conservative government. While in opposition, she held several positions including Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Shadow Secretary of State for Wales.

Career outside politics

Before entering Parliament, she worked as Director of British Film Year from 1984 to 1986, Senior Marketing Consultant at Ernst and Young from 1986 to 1991 and Marketing Director at Kidsons Impey from 1991 to 1993.
