Group Captain Chris Brown
Biography
Group Captain Brown commissioned into the RAF in 1994 from Liverpool University. Starting with a posting to Northern Ireland he subsequently served on Tactical Supply Wing, in the Falkland Islands and at RAF Northolt. These unit roles were punctuated with two tours at HQ STRIKE Command and operational deployments to the Balkans and the Middle East in support of Air Operations (Iraq).
On promotion to Squadron Leader in 2006 he returned to High Wycombe as a Project Officer in the European Air Group which included an operational deployment to the Democratic Republic of Congo as an advisor to the EUFOR Operation BENGA. In 2007 he deployed to Afghanistan as the Senior Air Movements Officer on Operation HERRICK. Sub-unit command was as the Officer Commanding Supply and Movements Squadron in the Falkland Islands before returning to an assignment as one of the Defence Logistic Operations Contingencies desk officers in MOD Main Building that encompassed the Arab Spring. There was a brief spell with the Military Aviation Authority as the first logistics officer in the organisation before leaving on promotion.
Selected for Wing Commander in 2012, he was SO1 J4 HERRICK Ops at PJHQ during the planning and execution phases of the redeployment of UK forces from Afghanistan on Op HERRICK. He then moved to Defence Support Chain Operations and Movements (DSCOM) as SO1 J3/5 during Operations GRITROCK (the UK support to the Ebola situation in West Africa), ORBITAL (the UK operation to provide training and guidance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces) and the setup of Operation SHADER (the UK contribution to military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant). Attendance at Advanced Command and Staff College was followed by a short assignment as Chief of Staff to the Head of Integrated Logistics for the Air Domain, Defence Equipment and Support. In Jul 17 he assumed command of OC Logistics Wing at RAF Akrotiri for an amazing 3 years that encompasses the COVID period. In 2020 he completed a detachment to Sarajevo as the Chief of Plans and Policy for the European Union Force. Promoted to Group Captain in 2021, he has served as ACOS Support on the Standing Joint Force Headquarters, UK’s 2* deployable Very High Readiness HQ.
Group Captain Brown holds a Bachelors (Honours) Degree from Liverpool University and Masters Degrees in Defence Studies from King College London and Logistics Management from Lincoln University. He is married and has a son.
