Christopher Allan
Biography
Chris Allan became Director, Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in May 2023.
Chris was previously Director, International Strategy and Engagement at the Department for International Trade (DIT) from 2019 to 2023. Before that, he was Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan from 2015 to 2019, and Deputy Head of Mission in Ethiopia from 2011 to 2014.
His first posting overseas was as First Secretary for Energy and Environment in Tokyo from 2003 to 2006.
Chris has worked for the UK government since 2000.
He has occupied roles at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) covering issues as diverse as security policy, South Asia and environment policy.
Chris has:
- a degree in Natural Sciences and Social and Political Science from Cambridge University
- an MSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics (LSE)
