Elizabeth Chapman OBE
Biography
Elizabeth Chapman is Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Sofia.
Elizabeth joined the Diplomatic Service in 2002. In London she has worked in various policy roles, including on the Andean countries, South East Asia and Counter Terrorism, and as an HR Business Partner. From 2018 to 2022, she was posted at the British Embassy in Warsaw as First Secretary Political working on EU-related issues. Previous overseas roles include short term assignments at around 15 British Embassies and High Commissions.
Deputy Head of Mission to Bulgaria
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
