Professor Gareth Evans
Biography
Professor Evans is a chair of medical genetics and cancer epidemiology at the University of Manchester.
He has established a national and international reputation in clinical and research aspects of cancer genetics, particularly in neurofibromatosis and breast cancer.
He has led a successful bid for a nationally funded neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2) service (£7.5 million per year) in 2010 and is involved in the national complex neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) service.
He was chair of the NICE guidelines on familial breast cancer from 2003 to 2012 and then clinical lead from 2012.
He is the cancer prevention early detection theme leader on the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre.
