Harriet Aldridge
Biography
Harriet Aldridge is the chief executive of the Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA).
She previously worked at PwC for over 20 years, leaving as a director to join the civil service. Her career experience has been focused on public sector clients and includes leading internal and external audits, high profile investigations and advisory services.
Harriet holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Sheffield. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
Harriet is married and has two children. She lives in Hampshire. When not at work Harriet enjoys walking her dogs, weight training and watching murder mysteries.
Chief Executive of the GIAA, Head of Government Internal Audit, and Board Member
The Chief Executive is the Government Internal Audit Agency’s (GIAA) Accounting Officer. She is responsible to the relevant Minister and, as the GIAA is an Arm’s Length Body of HM Treasury, the Principal Accounting Officer of HMT for the GIAA’s performance.
The Chief Executive is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the GIAA, in consultation with the advisory Board, of whom the Director General of Public Spending, Cat Little, and the Head of the Finance Function, Mike Driver, are members.
Providing a service to the Accounting Officers of most of the major Whitehall Departments and over 100 other customers, the Chief Executive has stewardship of the vision for the Agency to deliver better insights for better outcomes. This is given effect through the Strategy 2023 and the annual Corporate Plan.
The Chief Executive is also Head of the Government Internal Audit Function.
