Heather Lawrence OBE
Biography
Heather Lawrence was appointed as a Non-Executive Director at Monitor on 1 July 2012.
Heather has 23 years’ experience as a CEO. From 2000 to 2012 she was CEO of Chelsea and Westminster hospital which gained NHS Foundation Trust status in 2006.
In previous roles Heather also:
- hosted the North West London (NWL) Collaborative Leadership in Applied Health Research Care
- set up the NWL Health Innovation Cluster and co-designed the
- NWL Learning and Education Board.
As a CEO, Heather developed organisations where the relationship between managers and clinicians is seen as pivotal to the achievements both for the patient, in terms of standard of care they receive, and in delivering targets. Heather chaired the national negotiations for the SAS Doctors contract and Agenda for Change 3-year pay deal for non-medical staff. She was a Commissioner for the Prime Minister’s Commission for the Future of Nursing and Midwifery and a member of the Dr Foster Global Comparators Founders Board.
Heather originally trained as a nurse at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington before qualifying as a teacher and becoming a Nurse tutor at St Thomas Hospital. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel Management. Heather was awarded an OBE in the 2010 New Year Honours List.
