Hermione Gough

Biography

Hermione Gough took over as EU Director in Cabinet Office from January 2025.  She was previously in Cabinet Office from 2021 to 2023, including as Director International Economics and G7 sous sherpa. 

Hermione has served overseas as Director, UK-EU at the UK Mission to the European Union between 2018 and 2020, and as Minister Counsellor in the British Embassy in Paris from 2013 to 2018.

Hermione joined the civil service in 1997. She spent the first 10 years of her career working for HM Treasury, including on secondments to the European Commission and the French Finance Ministry. From 2007-2010 she was a Deputy Director in the Department of Education, leading work to combat radicalisation among young people. She then returned to EU policy as Deputy Director in the Cabinet Office’s Europe and Global Issues Secretariat from 2010-2012 before being posted to Paris.

Hermione read Economics at Cambridge and has a Masters in Public Administration from the French Ecole Nationale d’Administration.
