Ian Lindsay
Biography
Ian began his career in 1986 as an apprentice mechanical engineer with British Alcan at their large rolled products and casting facility in Falkirk, Scotland. On completion of his training, he began to develop one of the UK’s first manufacturing reliability teams, focussing on the implementation of condition-based maintenance and the deployment of a Computerised Maintenance Management System. In 1996, he joined the maintenance and reliability team of Rohm & Haas at their plant within the Grangemouth petro-chemical complex as a reliability technician. Whilst working within the engineering team, Ian continued his part time vocational education, gaining an Honours Degree in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2004; He was appointed Engineering Manager for the upper tier COMAH site in 2006. In 2007, the Swiss cement manufacturer Holcim recruited Ian to lead the engineering team within their coastal quarrying operations in Scotland and Norway. Ian was instrumental in transforming the business through the implementation of manufacturing excellence practices and embedding the concept of demonstrable compliance as a core competency.
In 2011 Ian joined the Agricultural Chemical manufacturer Syngenta and took up the role as Engineering Manager for largest operating plant within the former ICI manufacturing complex in Grangemouth.
In 2014 Ian took on his first plant manager’s role within Upper Tier COMAH manufacturing when he joined the French drinks producer La Martiniquaise as Distillery Manager at their unique Bathgate distilling, maturation, blending and bottling facility.
Ian joined OPA in April 2017 to lead the Engineering Maintenance and Minor New Works teams.
