Joel Bamford
Biography
Joel Bamford was appointed Executive Director for Mergers at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on 12 February 2024. On 1 July 2024 he became Executive Director for Mergers, Office for the Internal Market and Subsidy Advice Unit.
Joel is a member of the senior executive team and the Board, and leads the mergers function to ensure that the CMA delivers an efficient and robust merger control regime. Joel is also the executive lead for the Office for the Internal Market and the Subsidy Advice Unit supporting the effective operation of the UK Internal Market and the UK’s subsidy control regime.

The Executive Director for Mergers, Office for the Internal Market and Subsidy Advice Unit at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is responsible for:
- providing strong, visible leadership across the organisation
- strategic leadership of the CMA’s merger control regime, Office for the Internal Market and the Subsidy Advice Unit
