John Matheson CBE

Biography

John Matheson was Director of Finance for the NHS in Scotland from 2008 until his retiral in 2016 with specific responsibility for ehealth and analytics. Prior to that he was the Director of Finance at NHS Lothian. He studied at Heriot Watt and Edinburgh Universities.

John was a Council member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy for 10 years and became President in 2015. Whilst President he focussed on raising the international profile of the Institute including presenting at a number of international conferences and he chairs a Committee developing its global strategy.

Currently John chairs the Audit and Risk Committees and gives strategic advice to Transport Scotland. He is a consultant with CGI and consultant with DHI Strathclyde University. He also sits on the Board of the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop.

He was awarded a CBE in 2015 for services to the NHS in Scotland

The Member of the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration is independent. Its role is to make recommendations to the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State for Health, the First Minister and the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing of the Scottish Parliament, the First Minister and the Minister for Health and Social Services in the Welsh Assembly Government and the First Minister, Deputy First Minister and Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety of the Northern Ireland Executive on the remuneration of doctors and dentists taking any part in the National Health Service.
