Kathleen Reid
Biography
Kathleen Reid is the Deputy Head of Mission for the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in Sierra Leone. Kathleen has been based at the British High Commission in Freetown since March 2022.
Kathleen joined the Department for International Development in 2002 and has held a variety of leadership positions in Afghanistan, The Gambia, Iraq, Nigeria, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She has extensive experience in development policy and programme management, corporate operations and crisis management.
Prior to joining DFID, Kathleen worked for the Ministry of Defence and HM Revenue and Customs before studying for a Master’s in International Development and undertaking a volunteer placement in Ghana.
Kathleen is married to Royston.
Deputy High Commissioner to Sierra Leone
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. In Freetown, Kathleen is also Team Leader for the Political and Governance Team, and oversees consular, security and corporate operations
