Kato Longfield

Biography

Kato Longfield is Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Kinshasa.

She arrived in Kinshasa in August 2024.

Kato most recently led teams providing consular assistance to British people in distress and their families.

Kato has previously worked on counter terrorism, defence and security, and immigration issues in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Ministry of Defence, Home Office and Northern Ireland Office. She has worked in East Africa and in Afghanistan.

British Deputy Head of Mission to the DRC

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
