Lars Lippuner
Biography
Lars Lippuner joined the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s (MCA) UK Customer Maritime Services directorate in 2024. Before joining the MCA, Lars was Associate Professor of Maritime Education and served as the Director of Warsash Maritime School (at Solent University, Southampton); a global institution for maritime training, education, and research, which supports the professional development of ca. 10,000 mariners each year.
Lars has an academic background in Physics (MSc) and an Executive MBA, complemented by a Deck Certificate of Competency. Lars has also been recognised through his Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and his Associate Fellowship of the Nautical Institute.
Lars has also served as the chair of the International Association of Maritime Institutions and on the board of the Merchant Navy Training Board.
Director of UK Customer Maritime Services
The director of UK Customer Maritime Services is responsible for the UK Ship Register, the UK Shipping Concierge, Seafarer Examiners and Seafarer Certification Services, Customer Insight, and Regulatory Innovation.
The directorate’s objectives are to:
- deliver customer service excellence to all shipowners operating UK-flagged vessels anywhere in the world
- deliver excellent services to MCA-certified seafarers operating across the globe, including the examination and certification of seafarers
- represent the wider UK maritime offer through its UK Shipping Concierge service
- provide customer and market insight to the MCA and other parts of the Civil Service
- scan the horizon for maritime innovation as an enabler for future-ready maritime regulations
