Biography

Lord Strathclyde resigned as Leader of the House of Lords in January 2013 to pursue a career in business.

Education

He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, and the Universities of East Anglia and Aix-en-Provence.

Political career

Lord Strathclyde served as Leader of the House of Lords from May 2010 to January 2013. Before that he held several positions in government, including Minister of State at the Department of Trade and Industry and Government Chief Whip. He was also a member of the shadow cabinet between 1997 and 2010. He was made a Privy Counsellor in 1995.

Career outside politics

Although working professionally as a Lloyd’s insurance broker, he has attended the House regularly since his introduction in 1985.

Personal life

Lord Strathclyde is married with 3 children.
