Marc Thayre
Biography
Marc Thayre started as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Phnom Penh in August 2020. Prior to taking up his role he was Head of Political, Press and Projects at the British High Commission in Dar Es Salaam from 2017 to 2020. He joined Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service in 2010 and has served in Lashkar Gah as Head of Chancery and had assignments in Mogadishu, Harare, Belmopan and at UKDel Nato. In London, he worked in the East Africa Team with a focus on Uganda and Kenya and has worked in the Foreign Secretary’s Office and Human Resources.
Marc holds a Master’s Degree in International Development: Development Finance from the University of Manchester and has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Phnom Penh
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
