Biography

Air Vice-Marshal Mark Hunt was appointed Deputy Director General for the Defence Safety Authority on 18 December 2024.

His previous Ministry of Defence roles include:

  • Defence Equipment and Support Team Leader, Type Airworthiness Authority, Portfolio Head and Principal Engineer
  • Chief Air Engineer at RAF Brize Norton
  • Commandant of the Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering
  • RAF Cosford’s Station Commander, Head of Establishment and Accountable Manager
  • Director of Ground Training (delivering the RAF’s education policy, governance and assurance for all 27 specialist disciplines)
  • Deputy Air Officer Commanding No 22 Group

Deputy Director General for the DSA and Director (Technical) MAA

Responsibilities include:

  • As Deputy Director General for the DSA, lead and manage across the DSA, ensuring coherence of all eight Defence Regulators and Branches. (Noting all Regulator Heads have an immutable direct delegation for their regulatory duties from the Director General.)
  • Guiding, supporting, advising and providing senior intervention with MOD organisations.
  • Senior Technical Subject Matter Expert for the MAA across the Defence Aviation Environment.
  • Lead and direct the MAA Regulation and Certification Division.
