Mike Astell
Biography
Mike Astell is the Chief Executive Officer of FCDO Services, appointed in September 2021.
Mike has over 25 years of leadership experience, developing businesses providing infrastructure and services in complex, international environments for large multinational corporates including Alstom, Royal Dutch Shell UK and Centrica.
Mike is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Sainsbury Management Fellow. He also has a BEng (Honours) degree in mechanical engineering from Imperial College London, and a Master of Business Administration from Erasmus University.
Before joining FCDO Services, Mike was a Director at Centrica Energy from 2010 to 2014, where he was responsible for one of the company’s largest operated gas businesses. He has provided independent consultancy to businesses, including leading international advisory firms, public transport bodies and developers.
Mike is currently Vice-Chair of the Board of Hymers College.
Chief Executive Officer, FCDO Services
Operating as a trading fund under the Government Trading Funds Act 1973, FCDO Services is run commercially. The Chief Executive is responsible for delivering value in all services and offerings provided.
Delivering worldwide, FCDO Services designs, builds and provides secure services in more than 250 embassies, high commissions and other critical government facilities across 160 countries. Services include:
- protective security
- estates and construction
- cloud computing
- communications and monitoring
- logistics
- translation and interpreting
This is combined with a portfolio of global maintenance work.
FCDO Services also manages the UK National Authority for Counter Eavesdropping (UK NACE), helping protect UK assets from physical, electronic and cyber attack.
